Dr. Yana Biography

Dr. Yana speaks Russian & English

Dr. Yana Shevchenko grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. She showed an interest in natural foods, health and healing from an early age. Yana was fortunate to eat natural foods grown in her family’s organic garden. All dishes were cooked at home from scratch using fresh produce. Her relationship with her grandmother Maria was instrumental in regard to her knowledge of Russian medicinal herbs. Yana recalls being instructed by her grandmother about wild and garden plants which they collected during summer time. She helped to collect fresh flowers, roots, leaves, and stems of herbs, drying them or making tinctures.

Yana’s interest in healing motivated her to enroll in a nurse training program. After receiving her degree, Yana practiced at several hospitals over a period of years in St. Petersburg. Later, Yana was introduced to acupuncture when she met a doctor of Chinese Medicine. She read his amazing biography, received acupuncture treatments, and attended several of his lectures. Chinese Medicine was a completely new health/healing system for her. The doctor strongly emphasized the importance of eating a healthy diet, as a preventative & healing measure.  This introduction to Chinese Medicine planted a seed which influenced Yana’s future.

In 1998, Yana emigrated to the United States. It took her several years to study English as her second language. Then she received an Associate Degree in Science of Massage Therapy and has been practicing massage therapy for over 15 years. In 2014, Yana began making her herbal skin care products using oils, herbs, and essential oils. She offers lip balms, hand salves, face creams, face elixirs, deodorants, and other custom-made products per request. She believes strongly that application of skin care made from natural ingredients is as important as eating a healthy diet. Every product will be absorbed through your skin into your body after only a few minutes.

In 2014, after a long journey, Yana enrolled at the Five Branches University of Santa Cruz, California, to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She graduated in 2021. Yana’s passion for a healthy lifestyle continues throughout her life. Extended studies of nutrition over the course of many years led Yana to the ability to offer her knowledge to help others to stay healthy and recover from diseases.

"I have known Yana S. for a number of years as she has engaged in training in TCM at Five Branches University in Santa Cruz. At one point I was experiencing stress and problems with my gallbladder. I told Yana of this and she suggested acupuncture and said “Why don’t you give it a try? What do you have to lose?” I was uncertain, but decided to do so and went to the clinic for my first appointment. I was impressed with the care that I was given which included Chinese herbs. I experienced relief of my symptoms in short order.

Thereafter, I was treated by Western Medicine for apparent heart issues and prescribed with a blood pressure medicine among other things. Later, I decided that I wanted to seek the advice of a Chinese Medicine practitioner and did so, as Yana had not yet graduated. I was prescribed Chinese herbs and discontinued the Pharmaceuticals.

I am grateful to Yana for encouraging me to pay careful attention to my nutrition and to seek out care of Chinese Medicine Practitioners for any health problem. My health is now very good. Yana has graduated and now is a fully qualified practitioner in her own right. She is building a thriving practice of her own. I continue to seek out her advice on matters of nutrition. I am extremely grateful to her." - Gregory M., Portland, Oregon.
